The trip to Jog

I still remember learning that it is the largest waterfalls in India. The jog falls have been there in back of my mind always, all through.

Falling from around 920 odd ft. it is the country's largest single plunge of water down. The time I choose to visit with my friends was though not interesting enough, its summer. But what I thought is it is far better than sitting idle on the weekend.

It was an unusual trip that I planned this time; no plans. It was a less adventurous trip but more of fun trip for us. We were four, with a mixture of transport modes. Initially we travelled by train from bangalore to shimoga. There we took a single room for an hour or so and got fresh. Then hired a car till the Jog.

On the way we also visited an age -old temple at Ikkeri, and also an ashram at Varadahalli. The temple was at its best as our country's all other temples. It has lot of sculptures around, one has to spent a whole day researching them. I would love to visit this lonely temple once again and to know more about its grandeur and to record the details.

At the samadhy spot in Varadahalli, it was peace all around. In the midst of a small hill the temple dedicated to Sridhar Swamy and the samadhy spot at Darmadwaja which is in a jungle path from the temple never fails to amuse and think of ourselves.

We were heading to Jog afterwards, and knew beforehand that we are not going to witness lot of water plunging from mountain top. But what we witnessed was nature's fury in summer. There was literally no water. Thanks to the dams built around this falls, it is skinner than I thought.

But we could travel deep inside where we could have never ventured in rainy season.

It was huge rocks and rock formations that we had to hurdle to reach where the water was. It was really a trek kind of feeling. But the sun was making us exhausted very easily. Only when we were near where water was dropping down we could get some consolation from the sun. The water was breaking down and it travelled with the wind to give us a little and much needed comfort. It was am amazing experience though.

We then started towards shimoga and caught up the train to bangalore.
