Photoshop: Glowing Skin

Using Adobe Photoshop

This is one of the simplest of the tasks one can achieve using photoshop, the glowing skin. Many a times I have wondered how this "effect" has been achieved. I tried my luck and some investigations and here I am with my own tutorial of getting the glowing skin.

Mandates:

Adobe Photoshop (I am using Adobe Photoshop 7.0)
Any picture with a portrait of a baby or lady (soft skins usually glow good than normal).

What is a glowing skin?
A glowing skin effect is nothing but a normal picture blurred where light sources appear and make the portrait of the subject appear to be glowy.

Here's how:

Open your image using Adobe Photoshop. The entire image will be a layer.

Step 1
Now duplicate layer (Layer > Duplicate Layer). Give a name to the layer if you want to, or otherwise choose the default name. Apply Gaussian Blur (Filter > Blur > Gaussain Blur...). Choose a higher radius of 10 than the default.

Step 2
Now right-click on the newly created layer and choose Blending Options... In the Blend mode choose "Screen" and Opacity to 40%. Click Ok.

Step 3
Now duplicate the already duplicated layer (Layer > Duplicate Layer). Give a name if you want to. Now again right-click on the newly created layer and choose Blending Options... In the Blend mode choose "Overlay" and Opacity to 100%. Click Ok.

Done. This is what you need to achieve the "glowing effect".
